DPR Foreign Ministry Expresses Condolences to Families of Crash Victims in Rostov-on-Don / DAN / Edited autotranslation by Quemado Institute / March 19, 2016 / The DPR foreign Ministry expressed its deep condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the crash of the Boeing passenger plane in Rostov-on-Don, which took place last night. This was stated by the Foreign Ministry of the Republic. “The DPR Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and relatives. It is impossible to imagine how tragic the event was for families of the victims of the disaster. Surviving the loss of a loved one, especially if this loss is premature and sudden, is unbearably difficult,” the press service of the Foreign Ministry quoted the words of department head Natalia Nikonorova. “We empathize with anyone who lost relatives and loved ones in this terrible crash,” she said. On Saturday, March 19 at 3:42 MSK at the airport of Rostov-on-Don during the second landing in adverse weather conditions (strong side wind and rain) the aircraft “Boeing 737-800» of FlyDubai Airlines, operating flights from the FZ 981 Dubai, crashed with 62 people on board, including the crew. slavmar18zZakharchenko Says Events in Crimea, Donbass Inspired Them to Fight for Their Rights / DAN / Edited autotranslation by Quemado Institute / March 18, 2016 / A gathering to mark the second anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia took place today in Donetsk, attracting about three thousand people. The event was held in the central square of the capital. In addition to citizens and community members, DPR President Alexander Zakharchenko, Chairman of the People’s Council Denis Pushilin, Donetsk mayor Igor Martynov, and acting DPR Minister of Culture Mikhail Zheltyakov also partipated. “Two years ago, the citizens of Crimea have risen to fight against fascism. We all watched as people tried to return home, and they succeeded in Crimea. You know those events, and I am sure many of you are inspired by the struggle, as we are currently conducting,” Zakharchenko said in his speech. slavmar18yThe DPR Head congratulated Crimea on this holiday and thanked them for the support they provided to the Republic. In turn, the chairman of the DPR parliament said that the entire Republic was watching the events in Crimea two years ago. “It’s been two years since then, when the meetings were held in Crimea, preparing for a referendum, and we enthusiastically watched how the events would unfold further, imaginag all of this for ourselves, and very much wanting to have repeated the Crimean scenario. Unfortunately, our way was a little bit longer, but I am sure that we are one people with Crimea and with Russia,” said Pushilin. “Twenty years I spent in Crimea, then a part of Ukraine, and now Russia, and I see a sea change in these two years, which alone is worth the Crimean bridge, which will be built by 2018,” the audience was told by Nikolai Chirkov, who is now an activist in the public movement” Donetsk Republic. “I fully support the reunification of Russia and Crimea.” After the rally, a concert was held in the park with the participation of creative groups. Recall that on March 18, 2014 Crimea and Sevastopol became part of the Russian Federation. On that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Federal Assembly, in which they were notified of proposals for an Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city to join the Russian Federation. After that, the parties signed the relevant agreement. In accordance with this, two new subjects of the Russian Federation were formed. On the peninsula, March 18 was officially declared a holiday. UAF Soldiers Defect to NAF / Quemado Institute / March 18, 2016 / Members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have given up today near the town of Yasinovataya and come over, unarmed, to the Novorossiya side, where they received food and medical care, according to Twitter source Shinobi. The soldiers defected because they were ordered to shoot from open fields without cover.

slavmar18xDonetsk Situation Report March 18, 2016 / Excerpts from Russia Insider; Source: DONi News / March 16, 2016 / The intensity of shelling has decreased slightly. According to the DPR Defense Ministry, over the past two days the territory of the Republic has been shelled by the Ukrainian military 489 times with 329 mortar bombs of 82mm and 120mm caliber, four projectiles coming from tanks, and an unspecified number of rounds from infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers of different types, anti-aircraft systems, and small arms. The Ministry reported that in the shelling, two civilians were wounded, but it did not specify the damage to residential houses and infrastructure. However, residents of Gorlovka, the second-largest city in the north of the DPR, reported of shaking windows and fires in the northern suburbs of the city. DONi reporters were able to personally hear the shelling in the northern and western outskirts of Donetsk. However, having advanced into the buffer zone (in the most intense area the distance between the Ukrainian and Republican positions has reduced to 100m), the Ukrainian military do not limit themselves with shelling the DPR Army. Earlier, the DPR authorities were forced to stop traffic on the Donetsk-Gorlovka road due to Ukrainian forces opening fire at any vehicles that passed. Yesterday the DPR soldiers reported that the Ukrainian side had shelled civilian cars on a road to the south of Donetsk. Kiev also violates the Geneva Convention concerning the Red Cross. According to the LPR Defense Ministry, two days ago the Ukrainian military launched an anti-tank guided missile at a field ambulance despite a clearly visible red cross on it. As a result of the explosion, a 25-year-old nurse of a medical platoon was severely wounded and she remains in intensive care. It is not excluded that the decrease in the intensity of shelling is due to yesterday’s arrival to Donetsk of Alexander Hug, the deputy chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. At least his presence allowed the OSCE observers to inspect the area of the Yasinovatsky checkpoint, which the Ukrainian military had been trying to seize for over a week. Several days ago the OSCE representatives had been unable to get to the spot because of heavy sniper fire. Unable to stop the international observers from inspecting this time, Kiev, according to a DPR radio intercept, had withdrawn its heavy weapons from the area. UAF Reduces Fire Due to Ammunition Shortage / Excerpts from Russia Insider; Source: DONi News / One reason for the reduction of the Ukrainian military’s activity on the front might be due to a shortage of ammunition resulting from a week of attempting to break through the DPR defenses. According to DPR intelligence, several commanders of the Ukrainian units are even under an investigation carried out by the General Staff and the SBU into heavy losses and excessive use of ammunition. In addition, a number of Ukrainian soldiers are tired of the war and willing to bring it to the end by getting rid of weapons in non-conventional ways. The DPR Defense Ministry reported an attempt of one of the Ukrainian commanders to enter into negotiations with the DPR military authorities to hand over American radar stations. Even though the Ukrainian military are notorious for selling weapons and equipment, even to the enemy, this case seems different because the negotiators stated their intention to destroy the radars in their possession if the transfer turned out to be impossible. In another Ukrainian unit, DPR intelligence sources on the ground report that soldiers discarded unused ammunition into a nearby body of water. Apparently even reluctant to take part in hostilities, the Ukrainian military also shows little consideration for the life of local civilians endangered by mining and unexploded shells. However, the most of concern is caused by the export of weapons and ammunition from the conflict zone to the rest of Ukraine, especially its western regions. Yesterday DPR intelligence reported of an investigation into one of the Ukrainian units brought on by an attempt by soldiers to take with them 25 grenades, seven Kalashnikov rifles, and up to 1,000 rounds of ammunition upon leaving the conflict zone on rotation. It should be noted that the western regions of Ukraine were the first to illegally arm themselves during the riots in Kiev that ended with the coup. The Ukrainian military’s unwillingness to fight encourages a further spread of corruption for which it has always been notorious. According to DPR intelligence sources, any Ukrainian soldier can be transferred from the conflict zone for the price of 30,000 UAH (about $1,000), which exceeds by five times the average monthly salary in Ukraine. Soldiers are instead transferred to the west of Ukraine, which, together with the exportation of weapons there, as well as the total inability of Kiev to control those regions, looks very alarming. Ukrainian heavy weapons in the conflict zone continue to disappear as well. In their latest report, the OSCE mission documented that Kiev had withdrawn from the sites of weapons and equipment storage ten 152mm “Akatsia” self-propelled artillery systems, six 120mm and eight 82mm mortars, nine T-72 tanks, nine 85mm anti-tank guns, and 18 152mm “Ghiatsint” self-propelled artillery systems (see below pictures of weapons mentioned). In addition, the OSCE observers were not allowed to one of the Ukrainian sites. The DPR Defense Ministry reported over the past day of the arrival of 30 infantry fighting vehicles and a tank platoon to the Ukrainian side of the frontline. The Ukrianian military also continues to suffer non-combat losses due to tension between them and the mercenaries. DPR intelligence reported another clash between a group of mercenaries, moving without authorization along the frontline, and the Marines located nearby. Both parties took each other for a DPR subversive group and, after an hour’s firefight, the Marines suffered 10 casualties, four fatal. The losses suffered by the mercenaries are unknown, but it is clear that their presence in the conflict zone leads to the death of Ukrainians on both sides of the frontline. UAF Orders Fire on Civilians, Intense Shelling Injures 2 / Quemado Institute (Source: DAN) / March 17, 2016 / The Ukrainian Armed Forces opened fire 279 times using tanks, grenades and small arms during the past day, hitting front-line areas of the Donetsk People’s Republic, reports a DPR Defense Ministry spokesman. This resulted in 43 ceasefire violations. Orders to shell residential areas of DPR settlements were given by Commander Zabolotny of the 58th Brigade, Commander Miller of the 58th Brigade, and Klotchkov of the 93rd Brigade. The most intensive shelling occurred in the settlements of Zaytsevo, Trudovskoy, the airport area, “Volvo-Center”, Spartak, Zhabichevo, Veceloye, Yasinovataya and Zhdanov, using weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements. On the evening of March 16, two civilians were injured by Ukrainian gunfire in the village of Zaytsevo near Gorlovka, where the shelling was intense, reported Vice Corps Commander Eduard Basurin of the DPR Defense Ministry. It was in Zaytsevo that UAF fire hit a group of journalist from Russian federal TV channels, the Chinese news agency “Xinhua” and DPR media on March 14. Also today, Ukrainian Security Forces fired on civilian cars moving along the highway north of Dokuchaevsk, underscoring the sadism of the Ukrainian military, said Basurin. Following large losses in the UAF’s attempted invasion of DPR territory near Yasinovataya last weekend, where 31 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 73 injured in a single day, the Ukrainian command has decided to withdraw units of the 72nd and 93rd mechanized brigades from the war zone. “Due to low moral and psychological state, as well as the military commanders’ inability to solve technical problems, the UAF command decided to withdraw units of the 93rd Brigade from the ATO zone…. They are soon to be followed by the 72th division near the village of Andreevka,” said Basurin, adding, “The commanders of these brigades cannot cope with the task, and during their stay received unduly heavy losses among personnel.” Yesterday, Deputy Head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Alexander Hug and Head of the Russian contingent at the Joint Center for Control and Cooperation (JCCC or STSKK) Major General Rustam Muradov visited the Yasinovatskiy checkpoint on the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway, where UAF shelling had been continuous over the previous week. As reported by DAN from the scene, as soon as Hug and Muradov arrived, attacks by the UAF stopped. Previously, DAN reporters had been forced to take refuge in dugouts to avoid sniper fire, mortar, tank and infantry fighting vehicle attacks. The OSCE and JCCC delegation plan to assess the situaton and report ceasefire violations. slavmar17yThe Ever-Curiouser MH-17 Case / By Robert Parry / Consortium News / March 16, 2016 / Exclusive: The shoot-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over Ukraine has served as a potent propaganda club against Russia but the U.S. government is hiding key evidence that could solve the mystery, writes Robert Parry. / The curious mystery surrounding the shoot-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014, gets more curious and more curious as the U.S. government and Dutch investigators balk at giving straightforward answers to the simplest of questions even when asked by the families of the victims. Adding to the mystery Dutch investigators have indicated that the Dutch Safety Board did not request radar information from the United States, even though Secretary of State John Kerry indicated just three days after the crash that the U.S. government possessed data that pinpointed the location of the suspected missile launch that allegedly downed the airliner, killing all 298 people onboard. Although Kerry claimed that the U.S. government knew the location almost immediately, Dutch investigators now say they hope to identify the spot sometime “in the second half of the year,” meaning that something as basic as the missile-launch site might remain unknown to the public more than two years after the tragedy. The families of the Dutch victims, including the father of a Dutch-American citizen, have been pressing for an explanation about the slow pace of the investigation and the apparent failure to obtain relevant data from the U.S. and other governments. Zakharchenko Calls on Washington, Berlin, Paris to Stop Their Vassals in Kiev / Quemado Institute (source: DAN) / March 15, 2016 / Due to sharp escalation of Ukrainian offences along the front line in Donbass, including an attempted UAF invasion last weekend during which DPR militia units killed 31 Ukrainian troops, Alexander Zakharchenko has urged the OSCE and the US, German and French authorities to exert influence on Kiev regarding their policy in Donbass. Otherwise the situation in the region could spiral out of control. “If the OSCE, Berlin, Paris and Washington will not stop their “nukehrs” (meaning vassal in medieval Mongolian– DAN), the situation could spiral out of control. If the aggressor is not stopped from behind—grabbed by the tail, it wil have to be stopped from in front by a blow to the head,” read the text of a statement published on the official website of the Head of the Republic. Zakharchenko noted that at the moment, the situation along the line of contact has escalated dramatically. The reason for this was the UAF activity at the end of 2015 in the territories of so-called “gray zone”. He added that Donetsk has appealed for assistance from the OSCE on this matter. “And what did Mr. Hug (Alexander Hug, Deputy Chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission) say? That it is not a violation of the Minsk agreements, since the concept of a ‘gray area’ is not included in the documents. After this obvious sign, the Ukrainian Armed Forces decided they could seize all the space that lies between their positions and ours, as determined in Minsk,” stressed the head of the DPR. The leader of the state noted that Ukrainian troops have occupied villages where there were no DPR forces, but the monitoring mission ignored these violations. “Well, the appetite, as they say, comes during the meal. In Kiev, they decided that since the OSCE allowed their aggression in the ‘gray zone’ the first time, then further steps will also be given a blind eye,” he added. Zakharchenko said that as a result of these captures in the “gray zone”, there has come a new wave of terror by Ukrainian security forces against the peaceful population of Donbass. Battles at Yasinovataya (–

Yasinovataya Battles Continue, 14 UAF Soldiers Killed / Excerpts from Russia Insider / March 14, 2016 / The area near the town of Yasinovataya remains the most intense area of fighting. For six straight days Kiev has been trying to seize the town and the strategically important road connecting Donetsk to Gorlovka in the north of the DPR. According to local residents, there are heavy mortars and artillery at work. The DPR soldiers fighting on this part of the front also report constant attempts to break through the frontline by Ukrainian subversive groups consisting of seven to ten people with the support of highly intense sniper fire. A DPR reconnaissance group managed to capture one of the snipers, who turned out to be a black-skinned man whose spotter or flanker was equipped with a Colt M4 carbine of US production. Kiev has suffered heavy losses in the area of Yasinovataya. Only over the past day, 14 Ukrainian soldiers were confirmed killed and seven wounded. According to the DPR intelligence, in reality the number of unconfirmed casualties is much higher, but this information is suppressed by Kiev. Moreover, DPR sources on the ground report of a Ukrainian medical squad tasked with burying Ukrainian soldiers. The medical squad revealed that the soldiers had been killed near Yasinovataya, as well as that they had been ordered to file these dead soldiers as missing instead. To avoid the disclosure of casualties, the Ukrainian military press service does not even mention the clashes near Yasinovataya in their daily reports. According to them, the tensest situation over the past day was the one in the northern suburbs of Donetsk, where the DPR shelled Ukrainian positions 20 times with an unspecified number of shells and bombs from 82mm and 120mm mortars and 122mm artillery. The Ukrainian military press service reported that in some cases the Ukrainians returned fire, though confining themselves only to small arms. [Here the source is quoting enemy reports, which are seldom reliable. –QI editor] It seems as if Kiev is mocking both the people of Donbass as well as the international observers, or maybe at least does not expect the international observers to contradict them. // The position of the OSCE mission in Donbass remains highly questionable. The DPR Defense Ministry openly places the blame for the heavy fighting in the area of Yasinovataya both on the Ukrainian commander responsible for this segment of the frontline and on Alexander Hug, the deputy chief of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the clashes, Hug has not once visited the area. Instead, he went directly to Kramatorsk, where the Ukrainian operational headquarters is situated, and made a statement about the DPR having withdrawn weapons and equipment prohibited by the Minsk agreement from their storage sites. At the same time, Hug made no mention in his report of Kiev having seized a significant part of the buffer zone. The OSCE observers also refused to visit the DPR side of the frontline in the area of Yasinovataya due to safety concerns. slavmar15v[Meanwhile,] Kiev continues amassing weapons and equipment along the whole frontline. DPR intelligence reported that the Ukrainian side over the weekend delivered to the front 32 tanks, up to 40 self-propelled artillery systems, about 10 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers, two self-propelled “Nona” 120mm mortars, three mortars, and a train carrying field artillery. The DPR sources on the ground in Kiev-controlled territory inform of columns of Ukrainian equipment heading for Donetsk and Gorlovka. DPR Will Prevent UAF Seizure of Road Near Yasinovataya – Zakharchenko / Quemado Institute (from DAN) / March 15, 2016 / The forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic will not allow Ukrainian army divisions to take the route between Donetsk and Gorlovka in the area of Yasinovataya, where UAF military attacks continued for more than a week, stated DPR President Alexander Zakharchenko. “For our part, we will not let the UAF break into our positions, and will certainly not allow them to take control of the road between Donetsk and Gorlovka, because we know that sooner or later this would lead to a situation in which Ukrainian law enforcers will take direct fire on peaceful vehicles,” said the DPR leader in a statement published on his official website. Recall that the fighting in the section of the route Donetsk-Gorlovka route near Yasinovataya continued for over a week. UAF Divisions, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, repeatedly attempted to break through the defense line of the DPR. All enemy attacks were repulsed. According to the latest report of DPR Ministry of Defence, the losses on the Ukrainian side exceeded 30 soldiers killed and 73 wounded. Eduard Basurin (--DONi News)

Eduard Basurin (–DONi News)

Donetsk Defense Situation Report 15.03.2016 / DONi News / March 15, 2016 / The situation on the contact line remains tense. Over the past day the Ukrainian military violated the ceasefire 56 times and shelled the territory of the Republic 570 times. In the shelling the Ukrainian punishers eight times used tanks in the direction of Staromikhailovka, 45 times 120mm and 82mm mortars onto the territory of Zaitsevo. Altogether in the shellings the enemy made 11 rounds from tanks, 42 rounds from 120mm mortars, 60 rounds from 82mm mortars. The enemy also used infantry fighting vehicles, grenade launchers of different types, anti-aircraft systems and small arms. The orders to shell the residential districts of the DPR localities were issued by such criminals as the commander of the 58th brigade Zabolotny, the commander of the 93th brigade Klochkov, and the commander of the 56th brigade Mel’nik. The most intense shellings, including from heavy weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreements, were applied to such localities as Yasinivataya, Zaitsevo, Kashtanovo, Krutaya Balka, Staromikhailovka, Spartak, the Abakumov mine, Kominternovo, the area of the airport, the Volvo Centre, the Petrovsky district of the city of Donetsk. As a result of the shellings by the AFU there were killed two soldiers of the DPR Armed Forces. // Over the past day our intelligence registered the presence and arrival of the weapons and military equipment of the AFU units to the contact line: – In Kurakhovo (18 km away from the contact line) there was registered concentration of five motorised artillery systems, four tanks; – In Kamenka (11 km away from the contact line) there was registered arrival of two motorised artillery systems, and also the firing positions of two units of MRLS BM-21 ‘Grad’; – In Avdeyevka (5 km away from the contact line) there were registered firing positions of six 120mm mortars; – In Andreyevka (17 km away from the contact line) there was registered arrival of two motorised artillery systems. // The data obtained by our intelligence were transferred to the OSCE Special Mission’s representatives for them to perform unexpected inspections of the AFU units. Our intelligence keeps registering considerable shortage of the AFU staff while carrying out rotations. A part of the servicemen refuse from performing their combat duty and occupying the advanced positions, resulting from what there emerge conflicts between the commanders and the subordinates. More often such conflicts end with military’s injuries, in individual cases the fatal ones. The other part of the servicemen desert. In particular, the following units have thus far faced such problems: a company of the 2nd battalion task group of the 72nd separate mechanised AFU brigade near the locality of Mirnoye near Volnovakha; 16th separate motorised infantry battalion of the 58th separate motorised infantry brigade near the locality of Avdeyevka. At that, because of the absence of control on the part of the AFU commanders there is registered temporary relinquishment of the advanced positions by the Ukrainian military. In particular, the citizens of Avdeyevka register free wandering of the Ukrainian soldiers in groups of 2 or 3 armed persons near the summer cottages in the search of food, alcohol, and entertainment. // Besides, during the rotations of the 30th separate mechanised brigade the was established the fact of disappearance of four mortars 2s12a ‘Sani’, which were to have been received by the units of the 58th separate motorised infantry brigade. The revealed shortage the commanders of the 58th and 30th brigades are trying to resolve internally without informing the senior headquarters. It cannot be ruled out that the lost weapons could have come into possession of the DPR Armed Forces. // Near the locality of Chermalyk (Zhamozhnoye) there was registered the operating artillery observer from the 3rd company of the 23rd motorised infantry battalion of the 56th separate motorised infantry brigade, who was directing the heavy artillery, which was opening fire from the positions near the locality of Novosyolovka. According to the information from the local residents in the locality of Konstantinovka there was registered arrival of the battalion ‘Lvov’ for the purpose of carrying out the ‘cleansing’ of the population loyal to the DPR actions, there will be held the activities for detecting the escapists as well. The Ukrainian party keeps making attempts to defeat the Minsk agreements and at that tries to shift the blame for its provocations to the DPR. // Today, owing to the efforts of the General Muradov (the JCCC Head from the Russian party) there was organised the trip of the OSCE Mission to the area of the water purification station. The goal of the trip was to run this strategic facility, which had been laid off because of the shellings from the Ukrainian side. Knowing the scrupulousness of the OSCE Mission in safety issues, we provided security guaranties to the observers signed by the Chairman of the People’s Council Pushilin. We hope that the safety guaranteed by the General Taran in return will be provided for the object in full as well. In case of continuation of shellings of the water purification station by the Ukrainian party, it would be reputed that the General Taran has no officer’s honour, therefore at the Minsk negotiations we will be compelled to bring up the question of his replacement. The intentions of Ukraine to continue firing on the object are indicated by the reports of the Ukrainian media about the DPR allegedly having no interest in starting the filtering station. In response to that I bindingly state that we are adherent to peace and full compliance with the Minsk agreements. We bear responsibility for people, including those living on the territories which are temporarily occupied by the Ukrainian punishers. –Vice-Commander of the DPR Defence Ministry Corps Eduard Basurin, official translation by DONi News Agency [Source: dninews(dot)com/article/donetsk-defense-situation-report-15032016 – To view source, cut and paste into Google URL, then change “(dot)” to “.”]

Massive UAF Bombardment Continues Along DPR Frontline / Quemado Institute (source: DAN) / March 14, 2016 / Following Ukraine’s attempted invasion of the Donetsk People’s Republic near the village of Yasinovataya last weekend, in which 31 UAF soldiers were killed, Ukrainian attacks along the entire frontline continue unabated. The Ukrainian Armed Forces fired 294 times at DPR territory during the past day, according to the Defense Ministry of the Republic. “The attacks resulted in 67 ceasefire violations,” a spokesman said. Bombardment continues in the Yasinovataya area along the road connecting Donetsk and Gorlovka, with the Ukrainian side opening tank fire on ten occasions. Overall in the past day, the enemy fired on the DPR 15 times using tanks, 120 times from 120mm mortars, and 105 times from 82mm mortars. The villiage of Staromykhailivka in the Kirov district of the capital and the village of Lozove north of Donetsk have been under bombardment. Ukrainian security forces also conducted massive attacks, using mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms, on the village of Zaytsevo in the northern outskirts of Gorlovka. Two DPR militia soldiers were wounded during the shelling, and 10 private houses destroyed. Representatives of the DPR Defence Ministry visited Zaytsevo today to inspect the damage due to the attacks. During the inspection, several journalists came under fire, including a film crew from the Russian federal television stations “First Channel” and “Star”, and at least one journalist from the Chinese news agency “Xinua”, reports the Donetsk News Agency from the scene. The journalists are trying to find shelter, as there presently is no way to evacuate them. This bombardment follows a week of intense shelling, during which the UAF fired more than 2000 times on areas near the frontline, according to Vice Commander Eduard Basurin of the DPR Defense Ministry Corps. The most intense shellings occurred at Zaytsevo and the district of the Gagarin mines, both near Gorlovka, as well as Bezimennoye, Sakanka, Lozove, Kominternovo, Nikolaevka, and Sosnovskoye in the southern DPR; Spartak, Veceloye, and Zhabunki near the airport; “Volvo Center”, Yasinovataya, Dokuchaevs, Staromykhailivka and Oleksandrivka, all near Donetsk; and the Kuibyshev and Petrovsky districts of the capital. “The OSCE mission representatives and the STSKK (Joint Center for Control and Coordination or JCCC) personnel from the Ukrainian side made no effort to stabilize the situation,” said Basurin, adding that statements from the Ukrainian side about the situation at the front bear no logic and are given without proof. “Our joint efforts in achieving peace in Donbass have come to naught because of the actions of Ukraine. Accusing the DPR of provocations, the Ukrainian military-political leadership is tightening control on prohibited weapons in the buffer zone, even while it increases the number of ceasefire violations.” Basurin once again called on the OSCE mission to “pay attention to this and take steps to eliminate the criminal conduct.” Recall that for the seventh time, a ceasefire in Donbass was agreed to at the January 13, 2016 meeting of the Contact Group, but no “day of silence” has been recorded since that date. Ukrainian Army Bombards DPR Territory 200 Times in Past Day / Quemado Institute / March 13, 2016 / The Ukrainian Armed Forces have diminished their attacks on the Donetsk People’s Republic slightly, after Ukraine attempted an invasion on March 11-12 along the Donetsk-Gorlovka road near Yasinovataya and were repulsed by DPR militia units, resulting in the deaths of more than 30 UAF soldiers. The situation along the contact line remains tense however, according to the DPR Defense Ministry as reported by the Donetsk News Agency. “The Ukrainian security forces fired 200 times on the territory of the Republic over the past day, resulting in 57 easefire violations,” a spokesman said. Battles at Yasinovataya: Enemy Repulsed, 31 UAF Fighters Killed / Quemado Institute / March 12, 2016 / DPR militia defends territory. / Battles have been continuing for the past week at the Yasinovatskiy checkpoint on the strategically important route between Donetsk and Yasinovataya, near Gorlovka in the north part of the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to the Donetsk News Agency. The inaction of ceasefire monitors from the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) and Deputy Head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission Alexander Hug has led to aggravation of the violence at the checkpoint, reports Vice Commander of the DPR Defense Ministry Eduard Basurin. “The Ukrainian representatives in the STSKK (JCCC), do nothing to stop the [Ukrainian] attacks, but only create visibility for their participation in resolving conflicts. At the same time, using their official status, they make demands on the DPR Ministry of Defense commanders to abandon their positions.” The DPR Defense Ministry sent a letter to representatives of the OSCE mission for the peaceful resolution of the situation in Yasinovataya area but the response never came. “Hug has not yet arrived in the area, even though he was in the city of Kramatorsk. I want to ask him a question: will he comment on the Ukrainian military entering the gray zone? We have not heard a thing. We expected more from him. It is a pity!” concluded Basurin. slavmar12yMeanwhile the Ukrainian Armed Forces have made repeated attempts to break through the DPR line of defense for the past week, using units of the 58th “OMBPR” supported by tanks and armored vehicles. The goal was to to move into the neutral zone and gain a foothold in Yasinovataya. The DPR militia has repulsed the attacks, killing 31 UAF soldiers and injuring 73. slavmar10xUAF Attacks Yasynuvata, Russian Journalists Shelled / Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ (Original: Rusvesna) / March 9, 2016 / The first images have been released from the Yasynuvata post, where clashes started between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and fighters of the Army of the Donetsk People’s Republic. As was earlier reported by “Rusvesna”, on 8th March, the Ukrainian occupation forces tried to break through the line of defence of the DPR in the area of the checkpoint on the Yasynuvata— Gorlovka road. Fighters of the Internal troops and the Defense Ministry of the Republic spoke about the events, and also about the weapons that the Ukrainian troops are using against them. You can also see the shelled Russian journalists in the footage, which was reported previously. Recall that the section of the Yasynuvata-Gorlovka road at the Yasynuvata post has become one of the hotspots on the front line in Donbass in the last few days. On March 7th, the power structures of the DPR reported the Kiev military had captured territory in the neutral zone near the road. From the captured positions the APU began shelling civilian vehicles. Later, the Ministry of Defence of the DPR announced the closure of movement in the Republic by the police in connection with the danger to the life and health of the citizens.[Source:]

This was announced today by the country’s defense ministry, according to the Donetsk News Agency (DAN). “Over the past day, Ukrainian security forces fired 408 times on the territory of the Republic, resulting 52 incidents of ceasefire violation,” a spokesman said. Recall that on January 13 at the meeting of the Contact Group in Minsk, both sides agreed to complete ceasefire in Donbass from 00:00 January 14, the seventh truce in a row since the autumn of 2014. Nevertheless, attacks on the frontline occur daily. [Source:]

She has decided to hold master classes for children in art schools,” he said. Zheltyakov added that, in addition to the master classes, the pianist will give concerts in the schools. Lisitsa will visit those cities in the DPR most affected by hostilities—Donetsk, Gorlovka, Debaltsevo, Ilovaysk and Yasinovataya. “The schools give great concerts, and there are always grand pianos in good condition. Lisitsa will perform along with our viola Chamber Orchestra,” the minister said. The pianist’s tour will last from April 17 to 24 and will be held in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the birth in Donetsk of composer Sergei Prokofiev. The last time Lisitsa performed Prokofiev in Donetsk, on June 22, 2015, she was accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra in a concert-requiem dedicated to the Day of Memory and Grief. A specially prepared area was designed for three thousand spectators, but the size of the audience at times exceeded the expectations of organizers and people were standing in the aisles. Later, the pianist also performed in Yenakiyevo and Torez. [Source:]

slavmar10tProtesters try to set fire to Russian Embassy in Kiev / TASS / March 10, 2016 / Several people threw Molotov cocktails at the main entrance to Russia’s Embassy and were detained after the incident / Several people threw Molotov cocktails at the main entrance to Russia’s Embassy in Kiev overnight on March 10, Ukraine’s Independent News Bureau has reported. “The hooligans were able to throw over the fence of the Russian Embassy a few bottles with the Molotov cocktail, after which they were detained,” the news report said. At the moment, the Russian Embassy in Kiev has not commented on the incident. The protesters are picketing the Russian Embassy in Kiev for a third day demanding the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is charged with involvement in the murder of Russian journalists. Meanwhile, about 200 people have gathered on Thursday at a rally outside the Ukrainian Embassy in downtown Moscow. A TASS correspondent reports from the scene that they are chanting “Shame on the Ukrainian Junta.” No serious incidents have been registered during the rally. “The nationalist hysteria near the Russian Embassy in Kiev and Russophobic statements in support of Savchenko are nothing else but an attempt to demonstrate their own exceptionalism. Those who defend the murderer demonstrate in advance the rejection of any court ruling other than the not guilty verdict. They are using primitive, savage ways of self-expression to promote their own interests near the diplomatic mission under the shelter of their overseas mentors,” an organizer of the rally told TASS. He recalled that “Savchenko suspected of serious crimes had been honored with several awards since 2014, including by the United States, the European Parliament, she was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.” “We believe that Savchenko should get the punishment she deserves for the murder, which will be determined by the court. We are confident that those who support this hysteria must think in the first place about human rights in Ukraine, where tens of thousands of people have died,” he added. The rally is held against the background of the attack on the Russian Embassy in Kiev, which occurred in the early hours of March 6. The unidentified persons wearing camouflage and masks damaged cars with Russian diplomatic plates with baseball bats and threw flares and smoke bombs at the Russian Embassy. According to the embassy’s press secretary Oleg Grishin, the radically-minded protesters were well armed and prepared the attack carefully in advance. The Russian Foreign Ministry presented a note of protest to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, but so far there has been no response from Kiev. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said he “fully supported peaceful protests” in Savchenko’s support. A similar view has been expressed by Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk. [Source:]

slavmar10uLavrov: Attacks on Russia’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine outrageous / TASS / March 10, 2016 / In today’s interview Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told that “the international community must respond” to this situation. / The attacks on Russia’s Embassy and Consulates General in Ukraine are outrageous, the international community must respond to this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Russia’s REN TV channel. “We regularly monitor the situation, get in touch with the ambassador and his staff. They hold on, the way people who feel their Motherland is behind them, their home country, which will stand up for them, should behave,” the minister said. “The actions of the thugs who attacked the embassy and the consulates general, burst into the territory and ripped off flags, these actions are outrageous,” Lavrov said. “And we see no reaction whatsoever from the international community.” “When Iranian citizens broke into the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia, a serious uproar began. We joined the process, which was aimed at the unconditional protection of diplomatic missions, as required by all conventions signed by all countries,” Russia’s top diplomat said. According to him, Moscow sees no response from Western colleagues to the attacks. “They are more concerned with demands not to complete the trial but release Nadezhda Savchenko. “This is a separate issue, but hypocrisy and double-dealing are evident here.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will discuss later today with US State Secretary John Kerry the situation in Ukraine in connection with attacks at Russian diplomatic missions. “Of course, the main thing is suppression of such actions by curators of Ukrainian authorities,” Lavrov told REN-TV channel in an interview broadcast on Thursday. “This plays a decisive role for current authorities in Kiev. We will discuss this topic again US State Secretary John Kerry today. Of course, we sent similar signals to European capitals as well,” he added. Russia’s diplomatic missions were earlier attacked in several Ukrainian cities. In Kiev, Odessa and Lvov radically-minded protesters took to the streets to support Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is accused in Russia of killing two Russian journalists. Eggs, bottles of iodine were thrown at the buildings of the embassy and the consulates general. [Source:]

slavmar10sProtesters try to break through to territory of Russian Consulate General in Odessa / TASS / March 9, 2016 / Around 100 people took part in the protest in support of former Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is currently on trial in Russia over the killing of two journalists in Donbass in June 2014 / ODESSA / Protesters have thrown eggs at the building of the Russian Consulate General in Odessa and painted the gates red, a TASS correspondent reported from the scene on Wednesday. Around 100 people took part in the protest in support of former Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is currently on trial in Russia over the killing of two journalists in Donbass in June 2014. Among demonstrators were representatives of the so-called “Maidan self-defense,” of the Right Sector organization banned in Russia and Azov civilian corps. A group of demonstrators tried to break through to the territory of the diplomatic mission, “112 Ukraina” TV channel reported. Protesters clashed with guards, the police used batons and tear gas. Protesters called for closing the Russian diplomatic mission in Odessa. There have been no reports yet on whether anyone was detained. Radicals scuffle with Ukrainian National Guards near Russian Consulate General in Odessa: According to the acting Consulate General Vitaly Korchagin, Ukrainian extremists have scuffled with Ukraine’s National Guards protecting the territory of Russian Consulate General in Odessa. “Over 200 people have been protesting near the building since 2pm,” Korchagin said adding that among participants were representatives of the so-called “Maidan self-defense” and the Right Sector organization banned in Russia. They “brought barrels and hit them with sticks trying to add the noise and psychological effect to the demonstration,” the diplomat noted. “I went out to them, they handed me the petition [to free former Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko],” Korchagin said. “The territory of the consulate is under increased protection of Ukrainian National Guards,” he added. Korchagin said that several incidents occurred during the protest. “The gates were painted,” the diplomat noted. Savchenko is now under trial in the city of Donetsk in Russia’s Rostov region. She is charged under three articles of the Russian Criminal Code “murder”, “attempted murder” and “illegal border crossing”. The victims in the case are the families of the killed journalists, and in the attempted murder case VGTRK operator Viktor Denisov and a number of residents of Lugansk who came under artillery fire. They refused to participate in the hearing of the sides’ arguments. The trial against Savchenko began on September 22, 2015. Since July 25, 2015 the defendant has been kept in the SIZO-3 detention facility in Novocherkassk (about 30 km from Rostov-on-Don and 150 km from the Donetsk City Court) from where she is transported to the court hearings. She has been in custody for 1 year and 8 months. Savchenko, 34, who has been held in Russian custody since July 2014, already went on hunger strike for 83 days last March. Russia’s prosecutor has called for a 23-year prison term and a fine of 100,000 rubles ($1,400) for Savchenko. Russia’s investigators say Savchenko, the gunner of a Mi-24 helicopter, joined the Aidar militant battalion and in June 2014 conducted covert surveillance and direction of artillery bombarding targeting a checkpoint in the much-troubled Lugansk region. The settlement was full of civilians, including three Russian journalists. Two Russian journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin from the All-Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (VGTRK) died in the shelling. [Source:]

Erdogan, Poroshenko in Ankara, Mar 9 2016 (

Erdogan Promises to Help Ukraine Return Crimea / Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ / March 9, 2016 / Turkey does not recognize the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and is jointly planning with Ukraine steps for its de-occupation. This was stated by President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at a joint press conference in Ankara. “Turkey did not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and is not going to do either,” Erdogan said. According to him, Russia violated international law in this matter. “Mr President (of Turkey) supported the joint steps aimed at the de-occupation of Crimea. For this plan we will work together in the framework of international organizations on the basis of new international formats, including the format of “Geneva+” with the participation of the guarantors of the Budapest Memorandum, Turkey and Ukraine”, — quotes “Interfax” from the words of the President of Ukraine. Poroshenko also invited Turkey to participate in the privatization of state-owned assets in Ukraine, which is scheduled for 2016. Crimea and Sevastopol became part of Russia in March of 2014. The Supreme Council of Crimea and the Sevastopol City Council, in the background of the political crisis and a change of power in Ukraine, adopted a Declaration of independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. The vast majority of voters (96,77%), with a turnout of over 80%, voted for reunification with Russia. The Treaty on the adoption of new subjects into Russia was signed on 18th March 2014. Ukraine, the US, and the European Union refused to recognize the independence of Crimea and its reunification with Russia, and called the Peninsula “occupied” territory. [Source:]

Ukraine Restarts War in Donbass / / March 9, 2016 / Ukrainian troops in Donbass have once again violated the Minsk Protocol. The whole front line is engulfed in hostilities. The towns and positions of the Donbass militia are under fire. At the same time, the United States is saying that Russia has violated the Minsk Protocol by trying the war criminal N. Savchenko. Gorlovka surrounded: Ukrainian troops have almost completely surrounded Gorlovka. The road linking this town with Donetsk is also under fire. The main objective now for Ukrainian forces id destroying the infrastructure in this rebellious region and completely encircling the town. Journalists under fire: Just yesterday, near the town of Yasynuvata, Russian journalists came under fire from the Ukrainians. Fortunately, no one was injured. Creeping occupation: Ukrainian troops are pursuing a “creeping occupation strategy” in which they gradually capture territories previously demarcated as in the “neutral zone.” This tactic has so far been successful as Shyrokyne and Konstantinovka have already been captured. Western indulgence: The capture of neutral zones, constant firing at residential areas, and blockading towns and cities – all of these deeds demonstrate the real intentions of the Ukrainians. At the same time, the EU and US governments refuse to notice these violations, which directly provokes the escalation of Ukrainian aggression to the level of full-scale conflict. [Source:]

Donbass: Memory of Sorrow and the Battle of Zhdanovka / Widows of Donbass War: At the Gates of Grief / By Laurent Brayard for DONi.Press / Source: / Posted at Quemado Institute March 8, 2016 / slavmar8yWe are in a small Donbass village situated between Gorlovka and Zhdanovka; the place is grim, the roads are full of potholes, a Lada [brand of Russian cars –trans.] approaches dragging a trailer with two punctured wheels making strange soft sound as there is no asphalt on roads in the village. Warmer weather has turned the place into a cesspool by which small poor and quirky houses are aligned. It is, nevertheless, still Donbass, that is the wealthy capital of Donetsk with its monuments, theatres and universities and this village clinging on a hillside. Zakharchenko: Fate of Ukraine Will Be Resolved in Donetsk / Quemado Institute / March 7, 2016 (Source: Zakharchenko official website, March 5, 2016) / President of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko stated on Saturday that Kiev authorities have tried to blame their failure to fulfill the Minsk agreements on the complex political circumstances in Ukraine today. These include the crisis in government, the collapse of the coalition in parliament, the threat from the far right, and the economic crisis. Zakharchenko says it is not the political circumstances that prevent Kiev from fulfilling their obligations under Minsk. He adds that opinion polls in Donbass show the people have not given up their views as expressed in the Independence Referendum of 2014, but have only strengthened them. “The vast majority of our citizens do not see themselves as part of Ukraine. They are not ready to accept Bandera rules established in Ukraine.” Zakharchenko goes on to say, “Any officials in Kiev or the West may think that they will decide the fate of the people of Donbass. This is not true. I have already said that the fate not only of Donbass, but also of Ukraine, is not decided in Washington, Brussels, or Paris, not even in Kiev or Moscow. Zakharchenko on Normandy Four Paris Meeting: America Exhibits Double Standards / Quemado Institute (Source: Zakharchenko official website) / March 7, 2016 / Donetsk People’s Republic President Alexander Zakharchenko spoke on March 5 about the claims of the Ukrainian side expressed during the Normandy Format foreign ministers’ negotiaions in Paris, where they suggested there should be a change in leadership in the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics. “If other people try to come here, the people of Donbass will not change their minds about me, Igor Plotnitsky, and our parliament deputies,” Zakharchenko confirmed. “Or is Kiev hoping, as they said in the summer of 2014, to remove all the ‘separatists’ from Donbass and put them in concentration camps, then bring new people here from central and western Ukraine?” He added, “In May 2014, a referendum was passed in the Donets Basin, which was attended by most of the population, and the majority of our people have decided to live their lives by their own rules. In November 2014, our people voted in the elections and chose a Head of State and People’s Council deputies. All records of the referendum and elections have been kept—any expert can review them. It was a fair referendum and democratic election. It is up to us, the people of Donbass, to handle negotiations on the future of our state. And if Poroshenko is uncomfortable sitting at the negotiating table with those to whom he lost on the battlefield, there is no one else I can offer him,” Zakharchenko went on to say, “If he wants to be President of Ukraine, he will have to sit down at the negotiating table with those chosen by the citizens of Ukraine,” adding, “We are once again witnessing double standards. Take Syria. Who did the Americans forcibly seat the the negotiating table? Field commanders, representatives of the ‘armed opposotion.’ Why are there other rules in this case? In fact, we can say that we are ‘armed opposition’ only from the point of view of the authorities in Kiev, who came to power through a coup. So with whom is Kiev going to negotiate a political settlement? with themselves? Well, then, let them decide for themselves. To us, in Donbass, it will be irrelevant.” [Source:]
