OSCE Gates Open One Way, Ignoring Deaths of DPR Civilians – Zakharchenko / DAN / Edited autotranslation / August 19, 2015 / The OSCE Mission gates open only one way, as they ignore the deaths of civilians due to shelling by Ukrainian security officials. This was announced today at a press conference by the DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko. “I regret that the OSCE does not record that our residents are shelled. They have not entered into the record any of the dead over the past two weeks. And it turns out that this is a game with only one goal. When someone is killed on the Ukrainian side, then the OSCE keeps records. And when on our side, there are no records. These are double standards,” said Zakharchenko. Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that the victims of attacks by the Ukrainian security forces since this week began were 17 civilians, with 45 people injured.
Kiev Gathers Huge 65,000-Strong Army on Frontline Near Donetsk / Sputnik / n violation of the Minsk ceasefire agreements, the Armed Forces of Ukraine has deployed heavy weapons and a large number of troops to the frontline in eastern Ukraine’s Donbass region, Russian media outlets said. The reports came amid intensified artillery shelling exchanges between the warring sides in the area, including near the city of Mariupol. The Armed Forces of Ukraine has deployed a considerable number of men along the entire frontline, estimated to comprise of about 65,000 soldiers and officers of different subordination, level of training and motivation. This number includes between 68 and 70 battalions, comprised of 26 battalion groups plus separate company units. The Ukrainian army’s General Staff finally shifted to the battalion group tactics, reshuffling various kinds of troops after defeat in Debaltsevo. Given this development, the army’s recent shelling of the village of Sartana on the outskirts of Mariupol can be seen as nothing more than an attempt to drill the interaction of these battalion groups. Right now, several army brigades remain on the frontline, including the 24th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade and the 92nd Motorized Infantry Brigade, armed with eighteen Grad multiple launch rocket systems and self-propelled artillery platforms, as well as six tanks . . . Militia identify location Kiev shelled Mariupol from / TASS / August 19, 2015 / The intelligence service of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has identified the location of the artillery of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, from where they shell Mariupol, spokesman for the DPR Defense Ministy Eduard Basurin told reporters on Wednesday. “The intelligence service of the DPR militias has confirmed the location of the Ukrainian army’s artillery west of the populated locality of Primorskoye [20 kilometers northeast of Mariupol on the line of demarcation], at the road junction from where they shell the city of Mariupol,” Donetsk News Agency quotes him as saying. “To carry out its provocations, the regime of [Ukrainian President Petro –TASS] Poroshenko resorts to killing civilians, not only in Donbas but also in the territory controlled by it,” Basurin said. Earlier on Wednesday, DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko said that Mariupol was shelled from the Ukrainian positions near the frontline. He noted that the remaining military equipment of the Donetsk republic within the contact line in the south of the republic was not capable of reaching this area. On Monday, the US State Department accused militiamen of making attacks in the north and east of Mariupol. The militia in turn blamed Kiev for the shellings.
East Ukraine’s Donetsk Republic Will Hold Referendum To Join Russia? [Not true] / Infowars.com / August 19, 2015 / Referendum is scheduled to take place some in early to mid November. / Following the 2014 Crimean referendum which saw the Black Sea peninsula join Russia shortly after the Ukraine presidential coup and ensuing territorial conflict between pro-Kiev and pro-Moscow regions, many speculated it is only a matter of time before the Donetsk region, subsequently elevated into People’s Republic status, which has been engaged in constant warfare with the Kiev army (which is in such bad shape it recently drafted a disabled man without arms) would follow suit. We now have the answer. Having waited for over a year for the Ukraine civil war/conflict to be relegated to back page status, if that, Putin has finally given the green light, and as Xinhua reports, leaders of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” are planning to hold a referendum on seceding from Ukraine and joining Russia, the Donetsk-based Ostrov news agency reported Wednesday. The referendum is scheduled to take place some in early to mid November, or specifically two to four weeks after the Oct. 18 local elections, said the news agency. The ballot papers for the referendum designed in the colors of the Russian flag have already been printed, it said. And while neither the rebel leadership nor the Ukrainian authorities have commented on the report yet, the modus operandi is strikingly familiar to what happened in Crimea. Should Donetsk indeed proceed with a popular secession vote . . . MORE>> Editor’s note: Andre Purgin denies the many reports of a planned referendum: “I would not rule out a referendum sometime in the future. It would be a logical continuation of the ‘Russian spring’, … The statements of the Ukrainian mass media about the referendum are traditional stuffing. Similar messages were too the 12 of May this year. They wrote that allegedly brought the ballots for the referendum for joining to Russia already marked with a checkmark. Another stuffing of Ukrainian media is an attempt to discredit the political line of the Republic. Actually they give us a nice idea speaking about the referendum.”

Zakharchenko Video: Minsk Agreements Disrupted, We Have to Be Victorious (English subtitles) / Introduction by Alexrpt / Red Pill Times / August 18 / The US-EU funded Ukraine army has amassed 65,000 troops to try (for the 3rd time) to destroy Donbass. Now that Ukraine has received unconditional financing from the IMF, regardless of their economic meltdown, Victoria Nuland’s orders are to restart their campaign of terror on the East. Was there ever any doubt that Victoria Nuland and Ambassador Pyatt would not live up to the Minsk agreement and lead their new country called Nulandstan (aka Ukraine) into another conflict (Ukraine civil war #3) in an effort to bring total chaos to Europe, try and destabilise Russia, and distract Ukraine citizens from the economic disaster the Maidan has brought about. Editor’s note: A partial version of the original August 16 video is available at source. The following is a transcript of the subtitles. DPR PM Alexander Zakharchenko: “… Also I would like to note that we shouldn’t relax. Achievements are achievements, but the situation that is developing at the front lines, I can say that it clearly shows that the enemy is readying to attack. From all the ‘music’ (shelling) that you hear every evening you clearly understand what is going on. As of today on the front lines, we are confronted by about 82 battalions and tactical groups. Personnel-wise it’s about 65,000. Forward units are deployed in an attacking manner, therefore expectations that it will end peacefully — we have none. The Minsk agreements in reality are disrupted. And ahead of us is a lot of work. We have to be victorious. We have to build the state. We have to make the life of our people worthy. This is the duty of all of us.”
DPR Defense Ministry disproves US reports of militia attack on Mariupol / Novorossia Today / August 18, 2015 / The Defense Ministry of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has denied statements of the US State Department that the militia allegedly attacked the northern and eastern parts of the city of Mariupol in east Ukraine. “The DPR troops are at their positions and are not making any attacks. By far-fetched accusations, the official is trying to divert the public’s attention from preparation of aggression by the Ukrainian army, as well as justify the blame of the Kiev regime for massive shelling of the DPR inhabited localities in which women, children and old people are killed,” the Donetsk News Agency quoted a ministry spokesman as saying. The ministry said the militia does not react to provocations on the part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and adheres in full to the Minsk Agreements. On Monday, the US State Department accused militiamen of making attacks in the north and east of Mariupol. The United States claims Kiev violates the ceasefire in Donbas for self-defense. The DPR Defense Ministry said Monday the situation in Donbas acquired “a crisis nature.” As a result of a night shelling of the republic’s territory from the positions of the Ukrainian army, five civilians were killed and 14 wounded. Eduard Basurin Explains Why Ukraine Shells Residential Areas of Donetsk / Glagol.su / Edited autotranslation / August 18, 2015 / The situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic gets more complicated by the day. This was stated today to DAN at a briefing in the press center of the DPR Ministry of Defense Corps by deputy commander Eduard Basurin. “I want to draw your attention to the fact that the Ukrainian security forces used shelling of populated areas to divert attention from the redeployment of its troops to the line of demarcation. There are escalating enemy forces in their sectors and they prepare them for aggression on the territory of the DPR and LPR,” he said. According to him, DPR intelligence revealed to the arrival to the front of 47 new units of new military equipment, as well as electronic warfare stations. “In the direction of the settlement Lugansk, 25 units of tracked armored combat vehicles (tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, MTLB) were moved; near the settlement of Novgorod there arrived 5 self-propelled artillery units; near the settlement Verhnetoretskoe arrived a convoy of 15 military vehicles; near the settlement Freely they are moving 2 units of MLRS “Grad”; near the settlement of Svetlodarsk they have relocated military equipment, allegedly an electronic warfare station,” listed zamkomkorpusom. In addition, it fixes the arrival of trains with tanks at the stations in the settlements of Volnovaha and Hlebodarovka. “All of the above facts indicate direct training of the armed forces of Ukraine in order to begin the fighting, which implies disregard by Petro Poroshenko (President of Ukraine – approx. DAN) for the obligations assumed before the leaders of the Normandy Quartet,” he concluded.
Grim toll of rising Ukrainian shelling in Donbas, eastern Ukraine / NewColdWar.org / August 18, 2015 / The following is a compilation of eleven news reports that provide some overview of the scale of the recent escalation of shelling and other military activity by the Ukrainian armed forces and the extremist paramilitary forces allied with it in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. Below those news reports is the daily report for August 16, 2015 of the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). This typical, daily report is especially lengthy. The New Cold War.org website does not provide daily reports of the military situation in Donbas. Given the scale of Ukrainian violations of the Minsk-2 ceasefire agreement of Feb. 15, 2015, this would be a task beyond our means. We do report on the overall political and military situation. Readers who wish to read or research the situation day by day are recommended to go to the news sources cited below, among others. Ghost Brigade Fighter Anna Novorossiysk Interview / by Alexander Alekseev, Recent News of Donbass / Red Star Over Donbass / August 18k 2015 / ‘Better to be shot in the chest standing upright than get a knife in the back, on your knees’ / On August 18, 2015, in the city of Alchevsk, I had the opportunity to chat with a fighter, war correspondent and beautiful woman who belongs to the Ghost Brigade of Alexei Mozgovoi — Anna Novorossiysk, call sign “Bagheera” [Panther]. AA: Anna, tell me what you prompted to join the Ghost Brigade? AN: I began my journey in the militia of San Sanych Bednov (Batman). We all became part of the 4th Brigade of the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LC). There I was in the service, I held a respectable position with the rank of Lieutenant. I believe that when people defend their land, not thinking of money, and after a while get “high-profile” posts and titles, and even a decent salary, they can still remain the same as other militia who have put their chests forward for the nation and homeland. It’s strikingly different with those soldiers who come to “serve” the motherland only after seeing the promise of wages. What sort of defender of the country is that? This is selfish desire. Many such people, who seek only to benefit themselves, began to appear in the 4th Brigade. Therefore, after the death of Batman, I couldn’t stay there any longer. Neither rank nor title nor salary can outweigh my life principles, the need to remain among people worthy to call themselves defenders of Novorossiya. And among Ghost are just such fighters and commanders. AA: What do you do in the Brigade? AN: I’m a war correspondent of the Ghost Brigade. . . . Russia calls on Kiev to establish direct dialogue with Donetsk and Luhansk — diplomat / TASS / August 18, 2015 / UNITED NATIONS / Kiev should establish a direct dialogue with the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk for sustainable de-escalation of tensions. It is also necessary to achieve progress in implementing the Minsk political agreements, Pyotr Ilyichev, Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations told a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday. The diplomat said that active and fruitful dialogue was needed within the Contact Group for Ukraine settlement and its working groups with an aim to implement the February 12 package of measures to implement the Minsk agreements, which have been muddling through of late,” Ilyichev said. “It is obvious that without progress in implementing the Minsk political agreements and the establishment of Kiev’s direct dialogue with Donetsk and Luhansk, it is going to be impossible to move towards the final settlement and achieve stable de-escalation,” Ilyichev told the UN Security Council meeting devoted to the United Nations interaction with regional organizations. . . . Putin: Kiev, not militias is to blame for escalating violence in Ukraine / TASS / August 18, 2015 / SEVASTOPOL / Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he hopes that the situation in the Donbas region will not amount to open large-scale clashes between the militias and the Ukrainian army and that he believes there is no alternative to Minsk-2. “I hope that it will not come to direct large-scale clashes,” he told reporters. “As for the Minsk-2 agreement, I believe there is no other alternative for resolving the situation and that peace will prevail in the long run. Our task is to minimize the losses, with which we will come to this peace,” he added. The Russian leader also noted that the blame for the current escalation of violence in Ukraine rested with Kiev rather than the militias. “Unfortunately, today we see the escalation, and the blame for this rests not with the militias, it rests with the opposite side,” he told reporters. Meanwhile, the Russian side has evidence that the Ukrainian army is amassing troops and military equipment in Donbas. “It was the Donbas militias that suggested withdrawing all military equipment with caliber under 100 mm. Unfortunately, the opposite side didn’t do that. On the contrary, according to the available data, it is concentrating its units there, including those reinforced with military hardware,” Putin said. However, he declined to comment on remarks by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko regarding the Russian president’s trip to Crimea. In response to a request to comment on these statements, Putin recalled that Crimeans had closed the chapter on the issue of the future of the peninsula during the referendum.
Putin’s visit to Crimea continues aggravating tensions — Poroshenko / TASS / August 17, 2015 / KIEV / A visit to Crimea by Russia president Vladimir Putin continues aggravating tensions, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko wrote in Facebook on Monday. Putin’s arrival in Ukrainian Crimea without prior agreement with the Ukrainian authorities is a challenge to a civilized world. It continues the scenario of aggravating the crisis in Donbas. Such trips are leading to further militarization of the Crimean peninsula and are pushing it to greater isolation. Crimea has a future, including in the sphere of tourism, only if it remains part of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian president said. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the presidium . . . Kiev Furious Over Ukrainians Going to Crimea for Holidays / Sputnik / August 17, 2015 / An endless number of Ukrainian cars keep crossing the border into Crimea, as Ukrainians come to the Russian peninsula for holidays, Ukrainian news channel Uapress.info reported. In response, Ukrainian radicals have urged to make lists of “traitors,” who decided to take their vacation on the Russian peninsula and threatened to punish them later. “I recently spoke with Ilya Kiva, the deputy head of the Kherson regional department of the Ukrainian Armed forces. He said Ukrainians are going to the occupied Crimea for holidays en masse. According to their car plates, holiday-goers are from Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkov and Kiev,” Ukrainian politician Dmytro Korchynsky said, according to the source. Korchynsky was worried by the trend and said Ukraine should make the list of those who chose to go to the peninsula . . . MORE>>
