DPR says provocations against OSCE aimed at raising issue of peacekeepers in Donbas / TASS / August 12, 2015 / MOSCOW / Envoy of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) to the Minsk talks Denis Pushilin on Wednesday said that provocations against representatives of the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Ukraine were designed to again raise the issue of the need to deploy peacekeepers to Donbas. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshneko earlier said in an interview with three European newspapers that “the OSCE mission is vitally important for us, but this is not enough,” calling for the deployment of peacekeepers to the Donbas region. “Now we see provocations against the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission – from arson attacks on vehicles to shelling the observers. And this has been confirmed today by the statements of [Ukrainian President] Petro Poroshenko, where he again suggests deploying peacekeepers [to the region],” Pushilin said.

Ukraine vows to use all weapons against rebels / TheDailyStar.net / August 12, 2105 / KIEV [as spelled at source] / Ukraine vowed yesterday to use all weapons at its disposal to withstand an alleged new pro-Russian rebel advance that added urgency to a goodwill visit by Britain’s defence secretary. Kiev accused the eastern separatist fighters of launching another missile assault north of Mariupol — a government-held port that provides a land bridge between rebel territories and the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula. “We will use our entire arsenal and all the means at our disposal to beat back the enemy’s assault,” Ukrainian military spokesman Vladyslav Seleznyov told AFP. “We cannot risk the lives of our soldiers,” said the top Kiev army representative.

OSCE SMM not planning to leave Donetsk / Interfax Ukraine / August 13, 2015 / The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OSCE SMM) intends to continue its work in Donetsk although its vehicles were burned down early on Sunday morning. “In response to reports SMM has no plans to leave Donetsk. OSCE SMM spokesman Michael Bociurkiw told Interfax that the incident would impact the working conditions of the monitors but they would carry on their mission in the lands uncontrolled by the Ukrainian authorities. Self-proclaimed Donetsk republic to hold first-ever tank biathlon contest / TASS / August 13, 2015 / The defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk republic will hold its first-ever tank biathlon contest for local militias and self-defense forces from the neighboring self-proclaimed Luhansk republic, the command of the Donetsk armour units said on Thursday.
“The command of the Donetsk People’s Republic Defense Ministry corps has made a decision to hold the republic’s first ever tank biathlon contest. Tank crews from Donetsk and Luhansk will compete in tank driving skills and fire accuracy,” the Donetsk News Agency quotes the report as saying. The armour units’ spokesman said the contests would be held for improving the tank crews’ combat readiness. The militias will be competing in the rapidity of fire accuracy, target reconnaissance and driving skills. Tank biathlon is a contest for tank crews competing in driving armored vehicles and accuracy of fire. Of late, it was gaining ever-greater popularity in some post-Soviet countries. It is believed to be a brainchild of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. The first international competition was held in August 2013 in Alabino, a town to the southwest of Moscow, with participating crews from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. According to the rules of tank biathlon, crews must navigate a distance of up to 20 kilometres (12.5 miles) negotiating various obstacles, crossing rivers and bridges and shooting at a set of targets. Tanks that miss a target get a penalty lap.

Ukrainians Are Voting with their Feet Against War and Economic Disaster / by Roger Annis / New Cold War / August 12, 2015 / Mass resistance by young Ukrainian men against military conscription is a major impediment to Kyiv continuing a war in eastern Ukraine. The people of Ukraine are finding new and innovative ways to avoid compulsory military service and the vigilante military recruiters who enforce it. Deepening resistance to the draconian measure is now a significant impediment to the very prosecution of the war. Battle over public spaces: Recruiters are routinely raiding public spaces to hunt down and grab men of conscription age (20-26) who fail to answer the call to war. They block exits to shopping centers, transit vehicles, parks and other public spaces and then conduct identification checks. Those found to have dodged service or whose call-up dates are approaching are hauled away or given strict instructions . . . MORE>>

News Flash – Donetsk hit by over 800 artillery strikes / Vineyard of the Saker / August 12, 2015 / The Russia media is reporting that today Donetsk was hit by a record 800 artillery shells. The Telmanovo suburb was hit particularly hard, but the shelling was also very violent in the airport region. Furthermore, DNR intellligence services have reported a steady movement of Ukronazi forces towards the line of contact. These forces include tanks and artillery systems, even multiple rocket launchers. Yesterday, a group of 8 tanks backed by armoured personnel carriers attempted to attack Novorussian positions, but there were beat back. Two Ukronazi tanks were destroyed. Does that mean that a junta attack is imminent? Maybe. The logical conclusion would be that yes, indeed, an attack is imminent and that the current Ukronazi attacked are probing attack, reconnaissance by fire, to test the Novorussian defenses. . . . Aug 12 Sitrep – Ukraine’s Major Threat Escalation: Cassad’s 8 Points / by Colonel Cassad, translated by Greg Butterfield at Red Star Over Donbass / Fort Russ / August 12, 2015 / “Alarm in the Donetsk People’s Republic” August 12: Events in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR) continue to escalate. 1. After the Ukrainian Armed Forces (APU) shelling of Gorlovka on August 9, the militias of the DNR and Lugansk People’s Republic (LC) were put on high alert. Notably, activity in the DNR is much higher than in the LC. Troops are returning from leave. 2. Since yesterday the use of MLRS [Multiple Launch Rocket Systems] was seen, which had previously been only sporadic. Last night the sides exchanged artillery fire. Near Gorlovka sporadic fighting continues. 3. Equipment is being brought to the front by both sides (we have tightened the second line), the junta has officially renounced any restrictions on the withdrawal of artillery and openly allowed (legalized) its application. 4. The DNR and LC are now actively strengthening their positions at the front in anticipation of an offensive by the APU. There is increased activity in the military structures. http://cassad.net/vazhnoe/16232-v-dnr-obyavlena-boevaya-trevoga.html 5. In Donetsk city today, people were released from work early because they fear massive shelling. In the cities, the DNR is preparing bomb shelters, and notably, talking about the possibility of air strikes. 6. Officials openly say that fighting (high-intensity) can erupt at any time. The Minsk format shows no signs of life. (The next meeting should be held in late August plus announced “conversations” in September.) http://cassad.net/ukraina/ukrainskiy-krizis/16237-krah-minskih-soglasheniy.html 7. According to various sources, the beginning of the active phase is expected in the coming days if diplomacy does not slow down the current situation. 8. In general, the activity points to the possibility of a return to massive bloodletting in the coming days, rather than continuation of the trench warfare of April-July 2015. MORE>>.

U.S. and Europe to provide Kiev with satellite imagery to strike Donbass / Red Star Over Donbass / August 12, 2015 / Some 19 countries will supply Ukraine with satellite images of areas of military operations in the Donbass. The corresponding agreement was signed by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, according to the website Russian Spring. According to Ukrainian military expert Sergey Zgurets, the U.S. and Europe will supply most of the satellite imagery to Kiev. “They are to be used by the APU [Ukrainian Armed Forces] during the planning and conduct of hostilities in the Anti-Terrorist Operation,” said Zgurets. Many experts believe this step shows that from the beginning, the Ukrainian side was not going to carry out the Minsk agreement.

Full-Scale War Looms in Donbass / by Stephen Lendman / SteveLendmanBlog / August 12, 2015 / US and British special forces are actively preparing Kiev’s military for escalated combat. UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said Britain will double the number of Ukrainian troops it’s training by yearend. He called conflict in Donbass “red hot” – heading toward getting hotter. Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) Contact Group envoy Vladislav Deinego said Kiev violated every Minsk ceasefire term since agreeing to observe them in February. Conflict never stopped. Dozens of shellings occur daily – including against residential and public areas. Obama wants war, not peace – using Kiev proxies to do his dirty work. Deinego denounced junta authorities “reluctance to bring closer the peaceful settlement of the” conflict. It authorized $250 million in extra spending for greater military buildup in Donbass despite its economy teetering toward collapse – funds desperately needed for constructive purposes earmarked for escalated war. On August 10, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) military spokesman Eduard Basurin said “(a)fter two hours of massive artillery preparation from large-caliber guns, Grad multiple rocket launchers, tanks and mortars near the Petrovskoye, Novaya Laspa and the Belaya Kamenka populated localities . . . Active defense envisages efficient reaction to any provocations by the enemy,” he said while examining new pieces of artillery deployed in the troubled Donbas. According to Turchynov, “the hardware is situated at the distance coordinated by the Minsk protocol.” Almost 100 Ukrainian armored vehicles spotted on contact line. The defense ministry spokesman of the self-proclaimed Donetsk republic said on Wednesday that more than 90 tanks, artillery and armored vehicles of Ukraine’s Armed Forces have been moved towards the contact line in Donbas. Poroshenko’s Close Ties with Russian Elites / By Christina Melnikova, translated by J. Arnoldski / Fort Russ / August 12, 2015 / “State-owned [Russian] banks don’t just support the Kiev regime. As I understand it, the lion’s share of the Russian governing class is very closely linked to Poroshenko,” says economist Vladislav Zhukovsky. / Experts: Part of the Russian governing class is closely connected with Poroshenko. Visible manifestations of Russia’s support for the Ukrainian economy and, as a result, the Kiev regime, are really present, but on the question of how much they are capable of significantly affecting the economic situation in Ukraine, experts’ opinion diverge. Many political analysts, writers, and simply indifferent observers blame the Russian government, convicting it of evil intent and aspiration to maintain good relations with the West protecting the Kiev authorities who are waging war against the rebellious Donbass. So by what ways and, above all, for what is Russia, albeit indirectly, contributing to the maintenance of the positions of the hostile powers of the puppet and criminal Ukrainian “elite?” Granting discounts on gas and electricity supplies at preferential prices: In order to justify here the policy of “Gazprom,” the argument can be made that, first of all, Ukraine is a transit territory for Russian natural gas, and . . . Mykola AzarovAzarov: Ukraine’s Workings under Western Management / translated by J Arnoldski / Fort Russ / August 12, 2015 / For the sake of obtaining financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the authorities of Ukraine are willing to pay too high of a price, ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov believes. “If someone thinks that Ukraine is an independent country and Poroshenko, Yatsenyuk and co. govern it, then they are deeply mistaken…In fact, the clerks of the IMF mission in Kiev from the beginning to the end are dictating to the Kiev regime what and how it can do, what laws and decisions it can take, and which ones it can not”, the politician wrote on his Facebook commenting on a letter with a request for a loan by the Ukrainian authorities to the Director of the International Monetary Fund. This document, signed by President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Finance Minister Natalya Yaresko, and head of the National Bank Valeriya Hontareva, contains, in Azarov’s opinion, the insulting obligation for an independent country to conduct preliminary consultation with the IMF about taking any kind of measures of financial and economic policy. “Never before has Ukraine taken on such offensive, humiliating, and worst of all murderous obligations for its people.” The rate of inflation is increasing . . . Luhansk republic envoy says Kiev has not fulfilled a single point of Minsk deals / TASS / August 12, 2015 / The Kiev authorities have not fulfilled a single point of the Package of measures on implementation of Minsk agreements, the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) envoy to Contact Group Vladislav Deinego told a roundtable in TASS on Wednesday. “The Ukrainian authorities have been acting rather differently lately,” Deiengo said. “If yesterday they took a tough stance that they were not going to cooperate with DPR [self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic] and LPR, recently the rhetoric has changed.” However, this positive shift was not followed by significant changes since “nothing followed after [Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo] Klimkin’s statement about the importance of holding election in LPR.” “Ukraine’s Central Election Commission addressed Verkhovna Rada to provide a list of settlements where local election will not be held,” the LPR envoy explained. Latest escalation in Donbas is well-planned operation – Ukrainian foreign minister / Interfax-Ukraine / August 12, 2015 / [We present the following enemy version of events as an interesting contrast to the truth — Quemado Institute editor.] / The escalation of hostilities in Donbas was a planned operation of the enemy and Russia’s attempt to derail the implementation of the Minsk agreement, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has said. “The recent instances of the situation escalation were a deliberate, well-planned operation, both in Shyrokyne and in Starohnativka. All these cases are the examples of how the Russian side, together with Donetsk and Luhansk are trying to derail the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” he said at a joint briefing with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei in Kyiv on Wednesday.

No Buk missile fragments found at MH17 crash site in Ukraine — DPR envoy / TASS / August 12, 2015 / Those who claim that fragments of the Buk anti-aircraft missile system have been found at the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crash site will be unable to present any evidence to prove their words, Denis Pushilin, the representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in the Contact Group for Ukraine settlement said on Wednesday. “I am absolutely sure that no evidence will follow these remarks. We have already heard the United States say that Ukraine has some evidence on the Boeing-777 crash but we have not seen it. It’s going to be the same this time,” Pushilin said. He added that attempts were being made to politicize the investigation. “The fact that they have not even collected the plane fragments properly is a source of my great concern. We can still see rather huge parts of the plane lying on the ground. We have urged them many times to come and take them away. Without them the investigation is going to be difficult,” Pushilin explained adding that various political statements could be made to this effect. “We have seen attempts to create a tribunal, which was wrong a priori,” he stressed. Earlier on Wednesday, August 12, the Dutch Safety Board and the Dutch Prosecutor’s Office published a joint press release, which said that the investigators were scrutinizing the elements, which might be related to the BUK anti-aircraft missile system. At this stage, the experts have not confirmed the existence of a link between these elements and the Boeing crash.

Moscow calls on Kiev to show restraint after failed attempt to break militias’ defense / TASS / August 11, 2015 / Moscow has called on Kiev to demonstrate restraint and not to violate the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the sphere of security by irresponsible actions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. “The recent days have been marked by the worsening situation along the line of contact separating the parties in conflict in south-eastern Ukraine,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. “Reports have been made on increased shelling of populated localities, destruction, victims and peaceful civilians hurt in the Donbas conflict,” the ministry stressed. […] The Ukrainian military tried to break the militias’ defense near the village of Starognatovka on the Mariupol direction early on August 10. “After two hours of massive artillery preparation from large-caliber guns, Grad multiple rocket launchers, tanks and mortars near the Petrovskoye, Novaya Laspa and the Belaya Kamenka populated localities, the enemy used six armoured vehicles and six tanks to launch an offensive in the direction of Starognatovka and Belaya Kamenka,” Eduard Basurin, the spokesperson for the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, told a briefing held at the Donetsk news agency. Basurin: UAF Shelled Itself to Justify Offensive / Fort Russ / August 11, 2015 / Deputy corps commander of the Ministry of Defense of DPR Edward Basurin commented on the situation on the Mariupol area. Earlier, the Ukrainian side has accused the militia in the capture of towns of Novolaspa and Belaya Kamenka. To stop the flow of lies in the Ukrainian media, Edward Basurin commented shelling of populated areas by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From 5:00 to 5:30 August 10 AFU attacked Petrovskoe, Belaya Kamenka and Novolaspa with tanks, mortars and artillery, including “Grad” MLRS. From 7:00 to 10:00 a unit from the 72nd mechanized brigade of AFU consisting of two companies, of the 41-th independent motorized infantry battalion reinforced with tanks, with artillery support attempted to advance in the direction of the village of Belaya Kamenka. DPR units stopped the enemy and forced them to retreat to their original positions. Enemy losses amounted to 2 tanks, 1 infantry fighting vehicles, 1 anti-tank guided missile launcher and up to 18 soldiers of AFU, 7 of them are dead. AFU [UAF] cynically shelled their own positions on the southern and eastern outskirts of the village of Staroignatovka in order to blame the DPR army. Also from the territory near the settlement of Telmanovo was bombarded by “Grads”. Fort Russ/Flores’note: This claim by Basurin makes sense in light of what we came to learn in the week leading up to this offensive. Poroshenko called an emergency meeting of the war cabinet. Western press started chatter about a ‘dirty bomb’. Some mysterious forces in the SBU not totally on the same page with the US plans (we have previously discussed FSB infiltration of the SBU) arrested the Uranium-238 smugglers. This made a ‘dirty bomb’ excuse not possible. So instead, the ‘US advisers’ apparently just went the conventional route and pushed for shelling their own positions. This spectacle is important for OSCE and media reports.

DPR Aerial Recon Shows UAF Preparing a Major Push / Translated by Joaquin Flores / Fort Russ / August 11, 2015 / Ukrainian security forces have already ceased to be ashamed and hide the obvious. The shelling of settlements in the Donbass, they increase with each passing day. All night they shelled the outskirts of Donetsk. The truce has been finally forgotten about in Kiev. It is understandable why the Ukrainian authorities were in no hurry take heavy weapons away from the front. Today, our film crew was with militias who flew a drone copter. And it showed several things. Kiev concentrates forces on the border with the Republic of Donetsk. That is to prepare for a massive offensive, which the DPR fears can begin at any moment. “Bird”, as they affectionately refer to the recon drone for Republican Army, is gradually gaining altitude. .Donetsk republic says provocations against OSCE mission “politically motivated” / TASS / August 11, 2015 / MOSCOW / Provocative actions against the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) working in Donbass are politically motivated, envoy of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic to the Contact Group on Ukraine Denis Pushilin has told the Russian News Service. “Unfortunately, we now register an increase in the number of artillery bombardments. We consider this to be provocative actions against the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission as well. An investigation is underway, we are trying to find out the details. But the political motives are obvious for us. Actually, the task is to block the work of the Special Monitoring Mission to make it stop to register artillery bombardments. Unfortunately, we have a lot of complaints regarding the OSCE mission’s work, and when it does not register [the ceasefire regime violations], this gives a free hand to participants in the punitive operation,” Pushilin said. . . . Mykola Azarov served as Ukraine’s Prime Minister from March 11, 2010, to January 28, 2014. After the Euromaidan events last February he left the country. On February 20, the Prosecutor-General’s Office brought charges against Azarov under Part 2 Article 364 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (abuse of office entailing grave consequences). The Prosecutor-General’s Office noted that Nikolay Azarov during his tenure as Prime Minister illegally stopped in the autumn of 2012 the inspection of the interagency group, which found significant violations in the work of the Antonov state-owned enterprise. The money received as a result of the commercial use of the Ruslan aircraft remained on the accounts of two foreign companies and a representative of this state-run enterprise and was used by them at their sole discretion. According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, these actions inflicted damage on the state estimated at $1.7 million. Upon a motion from the prosecutor’s office, a Ukrainian court issued a warrant for the arrest of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

More Accusations of Nonexistent Russian Aggression in Ukraine / by Stephen Lendman / Global Research / August 10, 2015 / Big Lies repeated ad nauseam get most people to believe them. The long ago discredited canard about Russian aggression in Ukraine continues being repeated – on Saturday by neocon Washington Post editors. They lied claiming “(n)early six months after Russia agreed to an immediate cease-fire in eastern Ukraine, its forces continue to shell and rocket Ukrainian positions on a daily basis.” Far from pulling back heavy weapons or withdrawing its troops as required by the agreement, it has built military bases and deployed 9,000 troops inside Ukraine and stationed another 50,000 just outside the border… The sources: US-dominated NATO, Britain’s hawkish Royal United Services Institute (RUSI – a defense and security think tank), and Kiev junta authorities – knowingly and willfully proliferating Big Lies. Poroshenko claims around 50,000 Russian troops operate in Ukraine. It’s hard taking him seriously. His buffoon-like comments are ludicrous. US-dominated NATO is no better, saying Russian forces still operate . . . MORE>>
